OnChain Music Explained

OnChain music is music made available and/or hosted on the blockchain.

Also known as web3 music, onchain music comes in the form of a music NFT (non-fungible token). This is typically what artwork and digital media becomes when on the blockchain.

onchain music - what is onchain music

Why Onchain Music?

Onchain music enables and empowers musicians to further engage with top fans, create new revenue streams, distribute those revenues, preserve their art, and offer unique experiences all attached to the digital collectible.

Where do I find Onchain music?

Music that’s onchain can also be streaming on traditional music platforms such as Spotify or Apple Music, but doesn’t have to be.

To find onchain music, there are various web3 marketplaces, streaming aggregators, and NFT release builders where you can listen to and mint (collect) them.

Below are some great places where you can find music hosted onchain.

Onchain Music Platforms:

How do I Collect Onchain Music?

You can collect onchain music when you buy or mint the digital asset from your crypto wallet which uses the blockchain.

First, Fund your wallet on the same chain or L2 (Ethereum, Optimism, Polygon) that you’d like to collect the onchain music on.

Then, navigate to a marketplace or whichever platform the artist you’d like to collect from has their onchain music available to collect, connect your wallet.

Finally, purchase your onchain digital collectible!

You can also collect onchain music for free.

Some artists reward their fans and collectors with free drops, they can be for the art and collectibility, but free onchain music can also come with real utility.
